Similarly to coconut oil and palm oil, palm kernel oil is an edible plant oil. However, its derivation is what sets it apart. It comes from the kernel (or the nut) of an Elaeis guineensis – this is a particular species of African palm tree. There is a common misconception that palm kernel oil and palm oil is the same thing.
